Empty Summer: International Tourist Behavior in Spain during COVID-19

COVID-19 has led to the biggest tourism crisis in modern Spanish history. Although its borders were opened June 2020, incoming international Spain was very low. Tourist behavior, however, been diverse between types of tourism. Data from credit card transactions showing tourist behavior 33 destinations representative various analyzed. Results show that differences can be explained by risk perception and proximity destination home, which favors natural areas charming coastal cities. This study contributes academic literature studying effective tourists time COVID-19.
